HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE

The purpose of the Health, Safety, and Environment Committee (HSEC) at Gulf Medical University is to ensure the well-being, safety, and environmental sustainability of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus.

Decision-Making & Voting Right

The committee adopts a collaborative decision-making approach. Every member has voting rights including students. A simple majority, defined as more than 50%, is necessary for the approval of any given decision.

Responsibilities

Chairperson

  • Guide the committee in setting safety policies and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations

Co-chair

  • Collaborate with the Chairperson in leading meetings and initiatives.

  • Act as the main point of contact in the Chairperson's absence.

  • Support the execution of HSE policies and procedures.

HSE Officer Committee Secretary

  • Develop and implement health, safety, and emergency response plans.

  • Lead incident investigations and reporting.

  • Provide HSE training to all members.

  • Schedule meetings and prepare agendas.

  • Record and distribute minutes of meetings.

  • Manage all committee correspondence and documentation

Student Representatives

  • Act as a liaison between the student body and the HSE committee.

  • Promote safety awareness and best practices among students.

  • Provide student perspectives on health and safety concerns.

Faculty/Staff Representatives

  • Liaise with faculty/staff members to communicate HSE guidelines.

  • Report safety concerns and provide feedback from the academic community.

  • Assist in safety audits and risk assessments.

Facility Management

  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of safety equipment.

  • Address facility-related health and safety hazards.

  • Ensure that emergency systems (e.g., fire alarms) are functioning properly.

Facility Supervisor “Security”

  • Monitor campus for security risks and safety violations.

  • Collaborate with emergency services during incidents.

  • Conduct drills for evacuation and emergency response.

Housekeeping Department

  • Monitor cleanliness and hygiene in all university areas.

  • Ensure safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals.

  • Report any hazards related to cleanliness that may pose health risks.

Quality Assurance & Institutional Effectiveness Representative

  • Ensure that all HSE practices align with institutional standards.

  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits of HSE policies and procedures.

  • Work to continuously improve HSE strategies and their effectiveness.
